The holy city of Prayagraj is buzzing with activity as preparations for MaghKumbh 2026 begin at full pace. Known as one of the world’s largest spiritual and religious gatherings, the Magh Mela attracts millions of devotees, saints, and Kalpvasis every year. This time, the administration is committed to providing world-class facilities and ensuring a smooth, safe, and spiritually uplifting experience for every visitor.
To strengthen the arrangements, a budget proposal of ₹122 crore has been presented for Magh Mela 2026, out of which ₹42 crore has already been allocated. For the first time, a separate budget of ₹8 crore has been approved to maintain essential facilities at Sangam throughout the year, even after the Mela ends.
Major Preparations and Budget Highlights
1. Year-Round Facilities at Sangam — ₹8 Crore Allocated
The Prayagraj Mela Authority will ensure that essential services like sanitation, lighting, and water supply continue throughout the year at the Sangam area. This is the first time that a year-long service plan has been included in the Mela’s official budget.

Cleanliness and Sanitation: Top Priority
Cleanliness is one of the biggest focuses of MaghKumbh 2026. This year, arrangements are more extensive and better planned:
- 3300 sanitation workers will work round-the-clock
- A dedicated Sanitation Colony, Anganwadi Centre, and Primary School will be set up for sanitation workers
- 23,700 toilets will be installed across the Mela area — all functional by 15 December
- 2,000 urinals with 5 vendors managing them
- 6 community container toilets at the Parade Ground
- Deployment of 25 hopper tippers, 12 compactors, 8000 dustbins, and 10 lakh garbage liner bags
Sanitation workers will receive their salary every 15 days, directly transferred to their bank accounts through the Swachh Kumbh Fund.
⚡ Electricity, Water, and Basic Infrastructure
- Temporary electric poles and wiring are being installed at high speed
- Adequate lighting will be ensured across all sectors
- Jal Nigam teams are preparing drinking water facilities, water points, and pipelines
- Infrastructure departments have been instructed to finish their tasks on time
🏕️ Tent City & Land Leveling Work
The vast sandy banks of the Sangam are being prepared to host:
- A large tent city
- Akharas
- Ashrams
- Kalpavasi camps
- Various religious and social organizations
Land leveling across the Mela area is happening day and night to ensure smooth setup. The land allotment process will be completed by December 2025.
🌉 Pontoon Bridges & Travel Arrangements

To ensure easy movement of devotees:
- Multiple pontoon bridges are already under construction
- A proposal for an additional pontoon bridge from the Daraganj area is being considered
- Ghats will be constructed once the water level of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers reduces
These arrangements will help visitors access both sides of the Mela area with ease.
