Raja Ram Idol Consecrated on Ganga Dussehra
Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – In a historic moment for Hindu devotees and Indian culture, the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya took another major step toward completion with the consecration of the Raja Ram idol and the inauguration of the Ram Darbar on June 5, 2025. This sacred event coincided with Ganga Dussehra, a day considered highly auspicious in Hinduism.
The city of Ayodhya glowed with decorative lights and spiritual fervor as priests gathered on the first floor of the Ram Temple to install a nearly five-foot-tall white marble idol of Raja Ram, accompanied by bhajans and Vedic rituals. The event marks a continuation of the temple’s spiritual journey, which officially began with the consecration of Bal Ram Lalla on January 22, 2024.
Who Attended the Ceremony?
Among those conducting the sacred rituals were Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math, along with several senior priests. Thousands of devotees from across India and Nepal, undeterred by traffic restrictions and temple access limitations, gathered outside the temple premises, chanting “Jai Shri Ram” in devotion.
Even international pilgrims participated. Gogan Prasad from Kathmandu, Nepal, said, “I have waited so long for this moment. Now my prayers will be fulfilled.” His words reflect the emotional significance of this day for millions of devotees worldwide.
Inclusivity and Faith Beyond Religion
A particularly heartwarming moment came when a Muslim woman named Alamin, dressed in traditional attire, was seen singing devotional songs while waiting for her turn to enter the temple. Her presence highlighted Ayodhya’s growing narrative of spiritual unity and shared culture.

A New Milestone in the Ram Mandir Journey
This second major consecration ceremony marks a monumental moment in the construction of the grand Ram Temple, which has been a center of religious and political discourse for over three decades. The temple, built in traditional Nagara architectural style, is:
- 360 feet long
- 235 feet wide
- 161 feet high
- Spread across 2.77 acres
- Features 392 intricately carved pillars and 44 ornate doors
The Ram Darbar now houses divine idols of Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughna, and Hanuman, symbolizing the ideal family and spiritual leadership of Raja Ram.
Divine Installations Across Temple Wings
According to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the following deities have also been consecrated at various strategic locations in the temple:
- Sheshavatar (a form of Vishnu)
- Lord Shiva (Northeast corner)
- Lord Ganesha (Southeast corner)
- Lord Hanuman (Southern wing)
- Sun God (Surya Dev) (Southwest corner)
- Goddess Bhagwati (Northwest corner)
- Goddess Annapurna (Northern wing)
Why Ganga Dussehra Was Chosen
The ceremony was held on Ganga Dussehra, a day that commemorates the descent of the sacred River Ganga to Earth, inspired by King Bhagirath’s penance. This day signifies purification, penance, and divine blessings, making it ideal for such a spiritual milestone.
Vedic Rituals & Modern Technology
The day began at 6:30 AM with Vedic prayers at the Yajna Mandap, followed by a Havan (fire ritual) at 9:00 AM. Simultaneously, rituals were broadcast across multiple parts of the temple using large screens and cameras to maintain ceremonial synchronization.
A Historic Journey Rooted in Faith and Struggle
The construction of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir has been at the heart of Hindu religious and cultural identity. The foundation was laid following a landmark Supreme Court verdict in 2019, which resolved the long-standing Ayodhya dispute by allotting the land for the temple and granting land for a mosque elsewhere.
The temple’s construction is seen as a culmination of a movement that began with LK Advani’s 1990s Rath Yatra, which popularized the slogan, “Mandir wahi banayenge” (We will build the temple right there).
A Symbol of ‘Ram Rajya’ and National Unity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the January 2024 consecration, and other BJP leaders have often highlighted the temple as part of a larger vision of “Ram Rajya”, representing justice, virtue, and welfare for all.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath echoed this sentiment on social media, calling the event “a new expression of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.”
